Sister Whittaker’s 65th Week

August 31, 2015

Hello Friends and Family,

This weeks letter will be short because we don’t have much time, but I have to say it’s been one of the craziest, busiest weeks here in Kecskemét. We saw many miracles this week as well as hardships. This week we were able to meet with a women we met on the street last week. She lived in New York for about 14 years and speaks English almost fluently. She had heard crazy things about Mormons and one of them was that Mormon’s can’t swim. We were able to answer all her questions, taught her about the restoration and reassured her that yes, Mormons can actually swim.

Thanks to Andras for taking us out last week, and for sending some great pictures!
We are meeting with a family that has committed to be baptized in September. They are such a special family and you can see the light and happiness in their eyes when we bring up baptism. They came to church this Sunday all three hours and seemed to love it.

I want you all to know how much I love this Gospel. Tomorrow I only have 100 days left on my mission. It honestly does not seem real and I wish I could continue being a full time missionary for the rest of my life here in Hungary. I love the people of Hungary and I feel so blessed to have lived and served here. My testimony has grown in ways I never thought it would. The Lord asks so little of us, and yet gives us everything. I know God loves us and is aware of us. I know he knows us by name and knows how to help us. I know this Gospel is true.

I hope you all have a wonderful week. Remember to live each moment in the present. Love each and every moment because you will never get it back. God bless you all.

Hello Friends and Family,
This week Sister Sholly and I had to give two trainings in Miskolc and Szeged. After many prayers and much planning, we felt inspired and taught with the spirit. All in all it was a success, and the weight and stress is gone.

While out streeting this week we stopped and talked to a lady who was walking her dog. After telling her why we were here in Hungary, she then asked us in English if we were from America. She had lived in New York for 14 years and speaks almost perfect English. She told us how she is trying out different religions to find the truth. We exchanged contact information and set up a time to meet in the future. Before we left, she asked, “Could I get a hug?” It was so nice to give someone a real hug in the last year. It was truly a miracle.

One of my old investigators Andras from Nyiregyhaza who recently got baptized, came to Kecskemet this week for the 20th. It was a huge surprise and it was so great to see him again. We had a wonderful talk and caught up on life. Later that week he took us out to an amazing Hungarian restaurant and before we left he gave us each a big box of chocolates. He is one of the most Christ-like people I know and it was so great to see him again.

I can’t believe how quickly time is passing. Sister Sholly and I have been working hard and making every second count. I love this Gospel, I know we are doing Gods work and we are never alone. God has so many blessings in store for us. He loves us.

Sister Whittaker’s 63rd Week

Hello friends and family!

We went on our first splits this week with the Szeged sisters. We had a wonderful time, had programs, did finding and ended up giving out 6 Book of Mormons! One of my favorite finding techniques is tabeling. It’s where you set up a table in the center of town, lay out pamphlets and Book of Mormons and stop and talk with as many people as possible. Although, I wasn’t able to get their contact information, I was able to bare my simple, yet powerful testimony of what I know to be true and hopefully if the Lord has prepared them, that will leave a long lasting effect. The most important thing is how we make them feel, its not the doctrine that will catch their attention, but our own testimony.

We had an incredible program this week with one of our investigators who has two adorable sons. We talked about the Book of Mormon and reflected it back to baptism. It all seemed to come together perfectly, and Sister Sholly and I knew what we needed to say because of the spirit. We felt prompted we needed to ask them to be baptized. The spirit was so strong and they confidently said yes! They have been praying and reading everyday and are searching for the truth.

Sister Whittaker’s 62nd Week

August 10, 2015

hungary_week_62Well hello everyone!!

It was so hard to say goodbye to Szeged but I am loving my new home here in Kecskemét. It is a beautiful, old european city. They have about seven churches in the square, ice cream shops on every street, and we have been blessed with air conditioning in our apartment. All is well!

I feel so blessed to be able to serve with Sister Sholly. She and I were in the MTC together and came together to Hungary. We are both new to Kecskemét, so we are completely lost knowing where to go or who we are teaching, but we have seen all kinds of miracles in these last few days.

We had great programs this week and had all kinds of success finding and meeting people. We have met the greatest people here. We have an investigator who told us she is ready to be baptized in September. We asked her why baptism is important to her and she said, “Because I want to be with my family forever.” It was so sweet and sincere. Hearing those words is like music to your ears.

Kecskemét hasn’t had sisters for over a year and they have been praying for them to come back. When we walked into church they all lit up and greeted us with open arms. The ward is wonderful. Not to mention, we have the most amazing bishop.

We are excited to see what this transfer will bring. Thank you all for your prayers and support. Have a wonderful week! God bless!
